Morris Avenue on the Agenda

The county is planning on repaving Morris Avenue, and at the same time re-doing the traffic patterns to make it friendlier to pedestrians. Part of the project involves a quick test of what the new pattern might be from Ford Avenue up to where the road splits.

Tonight at the Morristown Town Council Meeting this resolution, just to do the test, is going to be discussed. While the test seems really sensible to me, I think there are a lot of people who live in the area that have strong feelings either way.

If you ride or walk on Morris Avenue, you might want to go tonight and throw in your 2 cents. The Meeting begins at 7.

Resolution No. R-75-10
RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE MORRIS COUNTY
DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION TO TEST OUT A NEW
STRIPING PATTERN ON MORRIS AVENUE FROM 287 TO
COLUMBIA TURNPIKE

PURPOSE: SELF-EXPLANATORY

(This plan does not involve bike lanes. It does involve taking out a lane of traffic and hopefully slowing traffic down to the posted 25 mph)

Responses

  1. I just saw that there is another item on the agenda about the NJDOT Bicycle Plan and Morristown, so hey, you should really go now.

  2. Uh…. Can you say, “BIKE LANE! Now!”

  3. The vote to run the test passed, with 3 council members voting for it, and 2 voting against.

  4. Also I thought this was being paid for with stimulus money, but it isn’t exactly. It sounds like the county did get stimulus money and used it for projects they had already planned for, and now they are moving projects like this up a year and using their regular funds. I think.
