How to Ride a Bike Forever

Here’s a little feel good blip from 1994 from Sheldon Brown’s site, via the Roots Radicals yahoo group.  I still can’t fix my bike, and anyone who has ever seen it knows it has quit a bit of extraneous wires on it, but whatever.  Hope you all have a great New Year’s and I think we can def look forward to an interesting 2009!

  1. Some really sage advice that I can wholeheartedly agree with. I’ve been riding for over 30 years and have come to just about the same exact conclusions after worrying about many of the exact things they tell you NOT to worry about. Just ride and have fun!

I must point out my total agreement with point #5. It might not seem important to many but having a number of bikes never makes riding boring. I switch around from my Ciocce-lugged Italian road bike, to my Brompton, to my ridged IF mountain bike, to my old Cannondales and finally (and most often!) to my old 3-speed Ross Eurotour that I found at the curb for free. When I get just a little board of one style of riding or one of the bikes meets my needs better, I break out that bike and almost always ride away with a wide smile!
